The Missouri-Kansas River Bend Chapter Board recently voted to have annual programs to commemorate the Missouri River up-river 1804 journey on June 26 (at 6 p.m.) of each year and the down-river 1806 journey on September 15 (at noon) of each year.
The June 26 event will be held at confluence of the Missouri River and Kansas River, now called “Lewis and Clark Park at Kaw Point.”
The September 15 event will be held at the overlook of the valleys of the rivers at the hill at 8th and Jefferson, “Lewis and Clark Point.” Friends are invited to attend any year.

Chapter member Jennifer Scott was thanked for her considerable service to the chapter by creating and maintaining the chapter’s website. Taking over for Jennifer recently is Keith Krieger, who will work the website and also the chapter newsletter, “On the Trail.”

Karen Seaberg, the incoming president for the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation is a member of the Missouri-Kansas River Bend Chapter. To commemorate Karen’s becoming president, Missouri-Kansas River Bend Chapter President Dan Sturdevant sang, at the 2007 Convention in Charlottesville, a parody lyric to the tune of “Everything’s Up to Date in Kansas City:”

“Everything’s up to date in Atchison, Kansas.

They’ve gone about as fer as they can go.

They went and built a river front based on Lewis and Clark.

Fer zero cents you can see a dandy show.

Everything’s up to date in Atchison, Kansas,

with Seaberg on top they steal the show.

July 4 1804 the expedition stayed.

July 4, 2004 the commemoration played

Sacagawea to Amelia Earhart to Karen will not fade.

They’ve gone about as fer as they can go.

Atchison, Kansas is the show.”

The Missouri-Kansas River bend Chapter supports the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation at the local level through events, activities, programs, promotion, and protection of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. In addition, the local chapter encourages local interest in the expedition and related historic sites.
