204th Anniversary of Lewis and Clark
Saturday May 31, 2008
A Bus Tour from Kansas City to Atchison, with guides Karen Seaberg , LCHTF National President and Ross Marshall
Sponsored by the Missouri-Kansas River Bend Chapter of Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Bus will leave at 8:30 from the public parking lot at 7th and Pennsylvania, KCMO (no charge for parking) (Reservation details below)
Stops on the way to Atchison will include
- The 'new' Lewis and Clark Point
- The 'new' Lewis and Clark Park at Kaw Point
- Campsites: Parkville, Leavenworth, Weston, Lewis & Clark Lake
Lunch at the Hoof and Horn (formerly the River House) in Atchison
In Atchison, we will be guided by our friend Karen Seaberg, the new LCHTF National President, as we visit the following sites:

Atchison Riverfront Park and Lewis and Clark Pavilion
- Benedictine Bottoms wetlands north of Atchison
- Independence Creek Hiking/Biking Trail, Kanza Earth Lodge replica
- National Park Service exhibits & Lewis and Clark July 4 campsite
- July 4, 1804 Creek with Lewis and Clark exhibits
- Santa Fe RR Depot Visitor Center and Atchison Museum
- Stop at Mormon Grove west of town, where many Mormons started west
- Tour of historic homes & Atchison's famous residents like Amelia Earhart
- Plus:
- Discussion of Atchison history relating to the Pony Express,
- the Smoky Hill
Trail,
- the Butterfield Overland Dispatch and
- maybe even some 'Border War'
Cost for the tour is $45 and includes lunch, maps, and handouts

The Missouri-Kansas River bend Chapter supports the Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage
Foundation at the local level through events, activities, programs,
promotion, and protection of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail.
In addition, the local chapter encourages local interest in the
expedition and related historic sites. |
